The investigation established that from 2014 to 2018, Bai Tianhui facilitated the acquisition of projects and financing from certain businessmen, for which he received bribes totaling 1.1 billion yuan (approximately 155 million dollars). As a result, on May 28, 2024, a court in Tianjin found him guilty of bribery and sentenced him to death.

Executed.
In February 2025, Bai Tianhui attempted to appeal the sentence; however, the Supreme People's Court of Tianjin upheld it. The court noted that the amount of bribes was "particularly large," and the consequences of his actions were "extremely severe." The case was sent to the Supreme People's Court for mandatory review, which confirmed the previously issued death sentence.
Ultimately, the Second Intermediate People's Court of Tianjin carried out the sentence in accordance with the law. Before the execution, Bai Tianhui was given the opportunity to say goodbye to his loved ones.
