On January 19, the press service of the State National Security Committee (GKNB) reported the discovery of violations in the activities of the rehabilitation center "Path to Life."

The center operated as a private medical-psychiatric institution, positioning itself as a place for the treatment of people with various addictions.

According to the investigation, the center was mainly staffed by former addicts who lacked medical education. Under the administration's guidance, they conducted procedures that could be characterized as "pseudopsychiatric."

“In cases where patients experienced acute psychological crises, especially during a 'breakdown,' inhumane and degrading methods were applied to them,” the GKNB stated.

Security services reported that physical force and special devices were used to "subdue" patients, including restraining beds, batons, electric shock devices, and gags, which led to physical injuries and serious psychological damage.

Unruly patients were placed in special isolation rooms, completely cut off from the outside world (with barred and darkened windows). They were deprived of access to toilets and personal hygiene products, made to wear diapers, and kept in such conditions for up to eight days, the press service reported.

The investigation also established that the illegal activities of the center brought significant income to its owners: the cost of "rehabilitation" for one patient was at least 80,000 soms per month. At the same time, the relatives of the patients were not informed about the real, unlawful, and cruel methods of "treatment" used in this institution, the agency emphasized.

Furthermore, it became known that the center did not adhere to the principles of separating patients with infectious and venereal diseases (such as HIV, tuberculosis, herpes, hepatitis, and others), which created a risk of transmission of these infections, as patients were in common conditions without the ability to avoid contact with carriers.

During the investigation, physical evidence was collected.

The following individuals are detained at the Temporary Detention Facility of the Bishkek City Police Department: I.R.K., M.Dzh.N., E.A.V., M.I.M., M.V.A., T.Ch.A., K.K.I., and Kh.S.V.

The GKNB urges anyone who has been a victim of the actions of those detained to contact the duty unit of the GKNB of the Chui region at the phone number 0 (312) 53-03-01.

Attention, the video and photos contain scenes of cruelty and violence.
