Police officers of the Uzgen ROVD beat detainees so severely that one has brain swelling, - GKNB

Recent events in the Uzgen district have attracted the attention of human rights defenders. The press service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) shared details of a criminal case in which three employees of the local police department were detained.

According to information provided by the Prosecutor's Office of the Osh region, the incident was registered under Articles 130 Part 3 Item 2 ("Causing serious harm to health") and 338 Part 2 Item 4 ("Abuse of power") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the GKNB, on January 3, employees of the Uzgen District Police Department illegally detained two citizens without proper documentation and took them to the Kurshab Police Station. The investigation suggests that the detainees were beaten, resulting in serious injuries to one of them: a closed head injury, a contusion, and brain swelling.

As a result of the incident, S.H., I.u.K., and A.A. were placed in the temporary detention facility of the GKNB's pre-trial detention center.

An investigation is currently underway.
The GKNB also urges citizens to report cases of abuse of office, misuse of official position, and other illegal actions.
