In the forests of the Chui region, mushrooms resembling orange-yellow balls have been found in significant quantities, reports Turmush correspondent.

Some of these mushrooms reach large sizes, with weights sometimes amounting to several kilograms.

Nature enthusiasts are asking the question: "Can they be eaten?"

Biologist Irina Stezhko explained that this is the sulfur-yellow polypore, which is an edible mushroom. It does not contain toxic substances and can be consumed after minimal heat treatment.
“In its young form, the polypore has a tender and firm texture, making it suitable for use in salads and soups. It can be fried, pickled, and salted. This mushroom is widespread in the forests of Europe, America, and Asia. In some regions of North America, it is referred to as 'forest crab,' 'mushroom chicken,' and 'wood chicken,' used as a meat substitute.

The sulfur-yellow polypore preserves well when frozen. It is also known as a source of antibiotics that can combat resistant strains of staphylococci and is rich in carotenoid reserves, as well as carbohydrates with antioxidant properties.

This mushroom is an excellent immunomodulator. Studies conducted by scientists from China have confirmed its usefulness in treating toxic liver damage and viral diseases such as herpes. However, they warn against its consumption during exacerbations of gastritis and duodenal ulcers,” added Irina Stezhko.
