Coal and electricity are becoming increasingly expensive, and not everyone has access to gas.
In order for the Bishkek City Hall's call not to burn waste to be effective, it is necessary to offer residents alternative fuel sources. This opinion was expressed by Vlad Ushakov, an expert from the "Ecomir" foundation, in an interview with Vesti.kg.
“Government agencies need to find a solution. This could be providing financial assistance, connecting to gas, or lowering coal prices. People need to know that they have a choice if they decide not to burn waste. Calls without specific actions, in my opinion, will not yield results,” he noted.
Even if neighbors or acquaintances ask not to "heat," the final decision will still remain with the citizens.
“This concerns government institutions. If fines are introduced, people will still look for ways to heat at night,” Ushakov added.
According to the city hall, in recent weeks there have been cases of using prohibited materials, such as used motor oil and household waste, for heating. This leads to the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere, negatively affecting people's health and worsening the environmental situation in Bishkek.
Additionally, restrictions on electricity consumption have been introduced in Kyrgyzstan until March 2026, resulting in a reduction of capacity from 5 kW/h to 3 kW/h.
