The research associate of the "Manas Epic" museum in the Talas region, Siyatbek Ibraliyev, spoke about his journey to the place where Manas Ata may have been buried.

In a comment to Turmush, Ibraliyev shared that in early summer 2023, together with photographer Sultan Duyshaliev from the Kyrgyz National Complex "Manas-Ordo," they visited a location where Manas Ata may have been secretly buried.

“After receiving information that there are ancient petroglyphs with inscriptions in Arabic in the mysterious Echkiluu-Too gorge, we set out on a reconnaissance mission to find and study them. For our working trip, we took a resident of the village of Ozgorush in the Bakai-Ata district, Kuttubek Ozubekov, to guide us to the specified location. Kuttubek is engaged in horse breeding and falconry, and he also breeds and trains birds of prey [“mülüşkördük” - falconer]. From a young age, he accompanied the elders on hunts, which he found interesting. He managed to hunt wolves and is also involved in breeding taigans. On the way to our destination, he told us how he had been there over 30 years ago and discovered petroglyphs with inscriptions in Arabic. Turning near the burial site of “Nyldy-Ata,” we kept our course straight ahead. On both sides of us were the gorge and valley with picturesque nature; we crossed the Kemer ridge as if we had traversed an entire pass,” the researcher recounts.

Heading towards the Nyldy-Ata gorge, the members of the working group found themselves near the shepherd's yurt belonging to a man named Yrys. From there, the road ended, and they had to continue on foot. After walking approximately three kilometers, they arrived at the place they had been heading to.

“The locals call the area where the petroglyphs with Arabic inscriptions are located Kara-Say. Before us stood the walls of five constructed residential houses, which had pointed four corners and measured approximately 15*30 meters. They were located about 50-60 meters apart from each other. Among these stone artifacts, we discovered five flat stones, on which inscriptions in Arabic were made with great skill. Everything was written evenly and clearly. It felt as if all of it was written by one person. Our ancestors placed stones with inscriptions on graves (cemeteries), in areas where no human foot had tread, on peaks and borders. Stones with inscriptions were established in honor of leaders, biys, chief viziers, military commanders, heroes, ambassadors, wealthy and noble people. After studying the historical area of Kara-Say, taking samples of the ancient inscriptions, and making photographs and videos, we returned. These places require more thorough study in the future, which necessitates organizing scientific expeditions involving specialists,” he believes.
