As reported at a briefing by Albert Zulkharnayev, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Kyrgyzstan, there are over 11,000 students from Kyrgyzstan studying in Russia.

According to him, approximately half of these students are studying on a budget basis, while the others are studying on a contract basis.

“Some of them have completed their bachelor's degrees and continue their studies in master's and doctoral programs, which allows them to study in Russia for the seventh or eighth year while also working in Kyrgyzstan. We know of graduates who are employed in major companies in the country, such as engineers at mining enterprises. Many high-ranking officials in Kyrgyzstan are also graduates of Russian universities. This year, there was an interesting case: a mother and son enrolled simultaneously under the quotas allocated by the Russian government — the mother is studying at VGIK, while her child is at GITIS,” Zulkharnayev noted.

Pavel Gultyaev, curator of educational projects at the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Kyrgyzstan, added that students from Kyrgyzstan are characterized by their diligence, activity, and ability to easily integrate into teams.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, Kyrgyzstan has been allocated 700 quotas for admission to Russian universities.
