At a briefing in Kyrgyzstan, Albert Zulkharnayev, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office, discussed safety issues for students from Kyrgyzstan planning to study in Russia.

Zulkharnayev noted that sometimes information about problems in the country is greatly exaggerated, which can deter young people from choosing to study at Russian universities.

“There is no need to panic. The tightening of migration policies concerns those who violate the laws. Those who come to study with sincere intentions should not have any concerns. Problems will not arise if a student is ready to dedicate 4–5 years to their studies or 2 years for a master's program. Each year, 700 people leave under quotas, and many choose other programs for budgetary or contractual education. Some stay in Russia, while others return to their homeland,” he emphasized.

Zulkharnayev also noted that issues of safety and comfortable living concern many students.

“Russia is a large and diverse country. Studying in the capital offers many opportunities. If a student is accustomed to the pace of large cities, they will feel comfortable. People of various nationalities and religions live in Russia, and in every major university, one can meet fellow countrymen. For a Kyrgyz person, adapting will not be difficult — Russian is the primary language, and in some places, such as the Moscow metro and ATMs, information is available in Kyrgyz. Each university has staff responsible for international cooperation who will assist with registration, medical insurance, and other necessary aspects. Russia is a safe and comfortable country for studying,” he assured.

Pavel Gultyaev, curator of educational projects at the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office, added that it is important to adhere to all deadlines and rules.

“Upon arrival in Russia, citizens of Kyrgyzstan have 30 days to register at their place of residence. It is recommended to resolve housing issues in advance — whether it be a dormitory, apartment, or house. In the first three months, it is necessary to undergo a medical examination and fingerprinting. These measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of students,” he noted.

For the academic year 2026/2027, Kyrgyzstan has been granted 700 quotas for students wishing to study at Russian universities.
