The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic has announced a new project that involves planting fruit orchards along the roadsides. The aim of this initiative is to reduce soil erosion, develop green infrastructure, and strengthen the slopes of the road network.

It is planned that within the framework of the project, fruit trees will be planted on sections approximately one kilometer long along the main roads in each region of the country. According to information from the regions, the corresponding plots of land have already been selected, and the planting of seedlings is set to begin in 2026.

Considering the specific soil and climatic conditions in various regions, the ministry recommends using specially prepared lists of varieties, according to the document "Zoning of varieties of fruit and berry crops, grapes, and nuts for 2024–2028."

"As global experience shows, well-organized fruit orchards along roads can not only improve the ecological situation but also strengthen the country's food security by increasing fruit production," the ministry's statement notes.

Currently, the ministry is working on a draft resolution for the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic to successfully implement this initiative.
