He noted that over the five years spent fighting corruption, significant results have been achieved, and the number of corrupt practices in Kyrgyzstan has substantially decreased.
“Currently, corrupt officials are afraid. If we continue in the same spirit, the population will get used to it and realize that it is possible to live without corruption. At the first stage, we need to apply the force of law, and then, when a new generation grows up in Kyrgyzstan, a life without corruption will become the norm,” Tashiev is confident.
The head of the GKNB also noted that not everyone took his intentions seriously at the beginning of the fight against corruption.
“At first, people were skeptical of me: ‘Can Tashiev really not take bribes? Can he be bought? Doesn’t he want wealth?’ There were attempts at bribery. There were cases that shocked me to the core. People brought boxes of money to my home hoping to resolve their issues. I not only did not help them, but I also sought strict punishment for these individuals. When we first started our campaign against corruption, many viewed it with pessimism, but eventually society began to believe in our fight and realized that our only goal is to eradicate corruption,” Tashiev concluded in an interview with Region TV.
