Kyrgyzstan Prepares Report on the Comprehensive Guarantees Agreement with the IAEA

A seminar dedicated to international nuclear safeguards for the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Vienna, the capital of Austria. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to the information from the ministry, the event was organized by the Department of State Regulation in the Field of Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of Kyrgyzstan with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. The seminar took place as part of a program aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of international nuclear safeguards (INSEP).

“The goal of the seminar is to raise awareness among government institutions and operators regarding the implementation of international nuclear safeguards, as well as to prepare for the submission of Kyrgyzstan's first report on the Additional Protocol to the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA. During the event, emphasis was placed on the practical aspects of applying the modified protocol on small quantities, which has been adopted by Kyrgyzstan, as well as on the distribution of functions and responsibilities within the national system for accounting and control of nuclear materials,” the statement noted.
