During the video bridge on the topic "Biosafety of the EAEU countries," Gennady Onishchenko, Deputy Head of the Russian Academy of Education, shared his thoughts on the current situation with the Hong Kong flu.

He noted: "Rumors about the Hong Kong flu... Memories of this virus date back to 1973, when it was first recorded. Currently, it is present in vaccines. According to the latest data from our influenza institute in St. Petersburg, the virus is indeed undergoing genetic drift; however, this change does not lead to the immune system failing to recognize it. With the start of the holidays for children, we are likely to see an increase in morbidity, which typically follows this scenario: two weeks of rise, then three to four weeks of plateau, and finally a decline. Influenza B will also be present, as it is included in the vaccines," he said.

He also warned against complacency, emphasizing that "a significant part of the responsibility for the level of morbidity lies with us, including vaccination against influenza."

The academician added that one should dress according to the weather and, upon experiencing symptoms of illness, it is necessary to consult a doctor, wear a mask, and isolate oneself from others to prevent the spread of infection.

Onishchenko assured that currently, there is only a moderate increase in morbidity worldwide, and there can be no talk of a pandemic. "There are no signs of an aggressive strain that could cause a pandemic. Neither in Russia nor in other countries have there been signals to the World Health Organization about the presence of such a strain," he added.

Nevertheless, he noted that sometimes fake messages arise, attempting to create the impression that a pandemic strain has already arrived.
