At the video bridge "Biosecurity of the EAEU Countries," RAN Academician and Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko discussed the current state of affairs regarding Hong Kong flu.

He reminded that the virus first appeared in 1973 and has since become part of vaccines. "According to the latest data from our St. Petersburg Institute of Influenza, the virus is indeed subject to genetic changes, but these changes do not allow it to evade existing immunity," Onishchenko stated. He added that after the holidays, there may be an increase in morbidity among children, which could last for seven to nine weeks: "Two weeks of rise, then three to four weeks of plateau, and finally a decline. Influenza B will also be active, as it is included in the vaccines," he noted.

The academician urged not to relax and emphasized that "a significant part of the responsibility for the level of morbidity lies with us," including in matters of vaccination against influenza.

He also recommended dressing according to the weather and, in case of illness, consulting a doctor, wearing a mask, and avoiding contact with others to prevent the spread of infection.

Overall, according to Onishchenko, there is currently a moderate increase in morbidity worldwide, but no pandemic is observed. "I can confidently say that there will be no pandemic this year, as there are no aggressive strains capable of causing widespread illness," he added. He noted that no country has reported to the World Health Organization about the emergence of a dangerous strain.

Nevertheless, the academician mentioned the presence of fake news that could create the illusion of a pandemic strain emerging.
