At the meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on industrial policy, transport, and construction on December 26, deputy Gulya Kozhokulova expressed concern about the loss of 52 sites that were included in the list of historical and cultural heritage.

She emphasized that the functions of local self-government, including obligations to preserve monuments of historical and cultural value, are clearly outlined in the legislation. "Why are these functions not being fulfilled? We have an article on vandalism in the Criminal Code. Why is the Bishkek city hall, which is indifferent to monuments, not held accountable?" Kozhokulova rhetorically asked.

In response, the vice-mayor of the capital, Azamat Kadyrov, noted that there is an established procedure regarding the inclusion and exclusion of sites from the list of monuments. He added, "The procedure was carried out, and some sites were recognized as emergency and unsuitable for use and restoration."

Kozhokulova insisted that the destruction of such monuments is a result of the negligence of officials. "You are public servants and receive salaries from the taxes of our people. You should make a public statement instead of remaining silent when criticized," she exclaimed.
