At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on January 19, Deputy Bolot Sagynayev raised the issue of the film "Kurak," pointing out the presence of elements that could be seen as propaganda for prostitution and LGBT. This film was presented by Kyrgyzstan at the international film festival in Busan.

Sagynayev inquired whether the film underwent any censorship before its screening at the festival.

Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev explained that there is no censorship system in the country. "I watched this film. It reflects the views of the director and the reality in which we live. There are other films as well, and I am not aware of the artistic council's decision. Yes, the film may provoke controversy, but we should not impose censorship," he noted.

The deputy clarified whether this implies that film projects can be released without consideration of censorship. To this, Tagaev responded that only those aspects that contradict the law need to be taken into account. Sagynayev reminded that there is a presidential decree prohibiting the promotion of LGBT.

In Tagaev's opinion, there are no such violations in the film. "Films should generate discussions and provoke interest. We cannot only show idealized images that we are a great people. This does not contribute to the development of the film industry," he added.

Sagynayev asked, "Do you not doubt the greatness of our people?"

Tagaev replied, "No, I have always considered our people to be great. I am talking about the film and that we should not hinder the development of cinema due to censorship." He suggested that the deputies watch the film together.
