Deputy Smirnova noted that the law will not restrict the rights of people with non-traditional sexual orientations, but will focus on limiting content that, in her opinion, may shape corresponding views in children.
“Every person has the right to choose what they need, except, of course, for pedophilia. However, propaganda is unacceptable. I have seen books in the library where LGBT propaganda is openly presented, for example, stories about love between princes. There are many cartoons, magazines, and comics that truly promote this propaganda,” she said in the corridors.
According to the deputy, the state has been late in introducing such measures. She also denied rumors that this law is a copy of Russian legislation.
“Why should we borrow from Russia? We have our own deputies who write laws based on their own understanding of this topic,” Smirnova added in response to a journalist's question.
As the parliamentarian explained, all films and books with LGBT themes will receive special labeling, and the rules for restrictions will be determined by subordinate acts of the Ministry of Culture.
