Kozyuev emphasized the need to address this issue, as the landfill periodically catches fire, and debris spreads to surrounding settlements, leading to air pollution.
Deputy Shairbek Tashiev suggested filtering the waste from the ground and directing solid household waste to a new recycling plant.
Umbetaly Kydryliev noted that the landfill has been in operation for 50 years and inquired whether its reclamation would be carried out.
In response, Mayor Junushaliev stated that the issue of reclamation is not on the agenda; however, the city administration plans to take active measures to eliminate the old landfill. He mentioned that the management of the new waste plant would soon arrive in Bishkek to present their plans and proposals. "The landfill will be completely eliminated. We have the resources for this. Work is scheduled to begin in 2026. We must thoroughly study the entire technological process," the mayor added.
