According to Junushaliev, the president then instructed law enforcement agencies to investigate the situation.
“Out of these 22 million, 16 million euros were spent, but only 900 thousand of them went towards the construction of a small office building that was used for a short period. There are many questions, and law enforcement agencies continue the investigation. At this point, I cannot name specific culprits. The president also instructed to provide a report on this situation,” the mayor noted.
He added that 6 million 280 thousand euros remained unused because the city hall did not know how to apply them.
“This is a loan. To date, we are paying 128 million soms annually, and these payments will continue until 2028. It is unclear what we are paying for. Of course, one can talk about tracing the landfill, but, excuse me, two years ago the president allocated funds to address the problems at the landfill. Nevertheless, it continued to smoke. Recently, due to arson, only 10% of the landfill caught fire, and smoke once again enveloped the surroundings,” Junushaliev added.
According to him, the 22 million euros began to be spent from 2013 to 2015 after the signing of the relevant agreements and were used until 2020.
“The contractor was an Estonian company. Someone had to make that decision. In 2021, we planned to sue them and recover the funds, but it turned out that this company was just a legal shell and never dealt with waste disposal. The question arises: why were these funds entrusted to them? I think this will become the subject of further investigation,” the mayor concluded.
