February 2026 will bring significant changes for the citizens of Kyrgyzstan. As the country prepares for the holy month of Ramadan, raids against illegal taxi drivers are expected, along with new regulations for driving schools, with driver training coming under state control. Kaktus.media highlights key events that will impact the lives of Kyrgyz citizens in the coming weeks.

Start of Ramadan

The holy month for Muslims will begin on February 18, although date changes are possible.

Fines for Illegal Taxi Drivers

Starting from the first of February, fines will be imposed on taxi drivers without licenses. According to the State Traffic Safety Department, about 30,000 people work in the taxi sector, of which only 7,000 have obtained licenses. The extension of licensing deadlines was discussed in the Jogorku Kenesh due to concerns about a shortage of drivers, but fines will still be introduced this month. The legalization process, which was supposed to be completed by December 2025, has been extended to February 1.

Taxi Prices May Rise

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev warned of a possible shortage of taxis after fines are introduced, which could lead to an increase in trip prices. "If a trip previously cost 200-300 soms, now be prepared for 700-800 soms, and this is without considering traffic jams and increased demand," he noted.

New Training System in Driving Schools

A state monopoly on driver training is being introduced: now training can only be done in state driving schools. Training for obtaining category B will take 10 months, and for category C — 12 months. Enrollment in driving schools will begin in mid-February through the "Tunduk" portal.

Athletes at the Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22 in Italy. Kyrgyzstan will be represented by two athletes: Artur Saparbekov will participate in cross-country skiing, and Timur Shakirov will compete in alpine skiing, including slalom and giant slalom.

Voting in District No. 13

A repeat vote in the single-member district No. 13 is scheduled for March 1, 2026. As of January 28, 27 candidates have been registered.

Discussion of Bishkek's General Plan

Citizens can submit their proposals for the capital's general plan until February 7. After that, the discussion will conclude, and the document will be sent for revision and approval, according to information on the "Koomduk Talkuu" website.

Mandatory Navigation Seals from February 11

From February 11, 2026, mandatory tracking of goods transportation using navigation seals will be introduced in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. This will apply to the transportation of alcoholic and tobacco products by both road and rail.

Makeup Classes Cancelled

In January, Kyrgyz citizens had a holiday until the 12th. Initially, it was planned to make up for the weekends on February 7 and April 25, but the final version of the resolution abandoned this idea — no work will be required for the January holidays.
