In Kyrgyzstan, measures are being strengthened to improve air quality and ecology

Comprehensive initiatives are being implemented in the country aimed at improving air quality, enhancing waste management systems, and implementing climate policy. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers' order No. 221, the composition of the Interagency Commission on Air Quality has been updated. The commission held ten meetings and organized field events in the cities of Osh and Manas, where pressing environmental issues and possible solutions were discussed. As a result of the work, specific measures were developed to reduce pollution levels.

As part of international cooperation, with the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a project to improve air quality in Kyrgyzstan is being implemented, costing 10 million US dollars and planned until 2028. Additionally, under the auspices of the World Bank, a similar project worth 50 million dollars is being developed.

To enhance climate policy, a new environmental security plan was approved by Presidential Decree No. 105, and the concept of carbon neutrality was established by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 397. A draft National Adaptation Plan has been developed, and Coordination Council on Ecology, Climate, and the "Green" Economy was created by Resolution No. 487. At its meeting, the Third Nationally Determined Contribution and the National Inventory Report were approved and sent to the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Kyrgyzstan actively participates in 12 international environmental conventions. The bill on joining the Vienna Conventions on Radiation Safety has passed its third reading in the Jogorku Kenesh. Additionally, eight international agreements have been signed with various countries, including Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Korea, Japan, China, the United Kingdom, and the SCO. Currently, seven international projects in the fields of air quality, biodiversity, and radiation safety are being implemented in the country, and cooperation is ongoing with 17 countries in technology and investment through intergovernmental commissions.

To systematize waste management, the state enterprise "Ekooperator" was established according to Resolution No. 325. Within the framework of the extended producer responsibility mechanism, more than 74 million soms have been collected in recycling fees.

At the local level, competitions for "The Cleanest City" and "The Cleanest Aiyl Aimak" were held. Nine cities and ten rural districts reached the finals, and the winners were provided with "Shumkar" garbage trucks, waste sorting lines, and specialized equipment.
