In Kyrgyzstan, active implementation of measures aimed at improving the environmental situation and reducing air pollution has begun. This was reported by the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Mederbek Mashiev, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee dedicated to agricultural policy, water resources, and environmental protection.

The minister noted that work is being carried out within the framework of an interdepartmental commission established to improve air quality. The new composition of the commission, approved by a cabinet resolution, includes representatives from 25 different ministries and agencies, as well as members of parliament. This has significantly improved interaction between sectors and enhanced coordination of environmental solutions.

According to Mashiev, in the past two years, there has been a positive trend in reducing air pollution levels in Bishkek and the Chui region.

One of the significant successes has been the improvement in the accessibility of gasification for residents. In accordance with a government decree, citizens are provided with preferential loans for the gasification of homes up to 150,000 soms at an interest rate of 3% per annum (instead of the previous 8%). This initiative has allowed more than 51,000 households in the capital to connect to gas, which, in turn, has reduced coal consumption by approximately 100,000 tons.

To protect public health, the government has decided to ban the import, sale, storage, and use of bulk coal with a fraction of 0-13 millimeters in the Chui region and Bishkek. The only exception is for heat energy enterprises.

Additionally, the ministry has strengthened state environmental control by organizing raids to check emissions from vehicles and industrial facilities across the country.
