Jemilya Jamambaeva, the ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic, has taken control of the situation in the family of a woman who committed self-immolation in the Ak-Suu district. As a result of the tragedy, four minor children were left without a mother — their ages are 17, 15, 14, and 6 years, the press service of the agency reports.
According to information from local authorities and law enforcement officials, the incident occurred on February 25 at the territory of the Ak-Suu district internal affairs department. The woman sustained serious burns and soon died in a medical facility. Currently, the police are conducting a preliminary investigation.
The eldest daughter of the deceased, who is studying at a vocational college, is currently 16 weeks pregnant. Her condition was reported to law enforcement by the medical institution. On the evening of February 25, the mother and daughter were taken to the police, where the interrogation was conducted in the presence of a representative from the district department for the protection of family and children.
After receiving information about the incident, the authorized representative of the ombudsman for the Issyk-Kul region began an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and work to protect the rights of the children. On February 26, staff from the institution arrived at the family to provide assistance.
The family lived in the Ak-Suu district and had previously been registered as low-income. Since 2018, the mother had been receiving state benefits for the children. Last year, with the support of charitable organizations, a house was built for the family, and the village administration provided financial assistance as the woman was raising the children alone.
Currently, the children are under the care of the deceased's elder sister. The issue of formal guardianship is in the process of being resolved. The pregnant minor also remains with relatives.
