Kyrgyzstan plans to annually import up to 15 thousand electric vehicles
A seminar titled "On the Path to a National Strategy for Electric Mobility" was held in Bishkek, where plans for the annual duty-free import of up to 15 thousand electric vehicles and the development of charging infrastructure in the country were discussed. This information was provided by the press service of the Climate Finance Center under the government.

The seminar was organized by the Center in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

The main focus of the event was on the development of the electric vehicle market, the expansion of charging infrastructure, and the creation of transparent conditions for investors.

Currently, there are more than 230 charging stations operating in Kyrgyzstan, of which about 60 are located in Bishkek.

As part of the presentation, experts presented data on the significant growth of the electric vehicle market in Kyrgyzstan. In 2023, quotas for duty-free imports of electric vehicles were established in accordance with the EAEU regulations.

If there were about 5 thousand electric vehicles in the country in 2022, then from 2023 to 2025, the annual quotas for duty-free imports will be up to 10 thousand vehicles. Starting in 2026, Kyrgyzstan plans to increase the import volume to 15 thousand electric vehicles per year, which will allow for an increase in the quota size.

The seminar concluded with the formation of key recommendations, including the establishment of an interagency working group and a secretariat for electric mobility, the implementation of a "single window" system for obtaining permits, the establishment of unified charging standards, and the development of infrastructure through public-private partnership mechanisms.

The development of electric mobility is viewed as an important element of the strategy to reduce emissions, improve the urban environment, and strengthen the green economy of Kyrgyzstan.
