Kyrgyzstan Wants to Legally Secure the World Nomad Games for Itself
In the ministry, it was emphasized that the existing legislation only partially covers issues of culture, sports, and intangible heritage and does not establish a special international status for Kyrgyzstan as a center for the preservation of nomadic civilizations.
According to the ministry's information, the World Nomad Games, which were initiated by Kyrgyzstan, quickly gained international recognition and became an effective tool of cultural diplomacy, contributing to the formation of a positive image of the country on the world stage.
In December 2025, the exclusive rights to the trademark World Nomad Games were transferred to the state ownership of the Kyrgyz Republic and officially registered. This, in the opinion of the ministry, created legal conditions for further institutional support of the Games at the state level.
The ministry also reminded that the Games are held under the auspices of Kyrgyzstan and unite many countries and peoples connected with nomadic culture. The preparation for the competitions requires specific organizational solutions from the government; however, these are temporary in nature.
In this regard, the authors of the initiative believe it is necessary to adopt a separate constitutional law that will ensure the status of the Games and create a solid legal foundation for their further development.
It is proposed to legally establish the status of Kyrgyzstan as the spiritual and coordinating center of the World Nomad Games, as well as to protect their name, symbolism, and methodology.
The draft law also includes provisions for the possibility of transferring the rights to hold the Games to other countries based on international agreements, while maintaining control by Kyrgyzstan as the project initiator. It is planned that the competitions will be held every two years, alternating between the host countries.
The ministry emphasizes that the adoption of this law will allow for a transition from temporary management of the Games to a sustainable system for their conduct, which will contribute to the development of cultural tourism, ethnosport, and international cultural cooperation.
It should be noted that the World Nomad Games were initiated by Kyrgyzstan in 2012, and the first competitions took place in 2014 on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, after which they became one of the largest international projects aimed at preserving the culture of nomadic peoples.
