Price surge in oil. UN reminds of the value of renewable energy
Source: news.un.org. Transitioning to renewable sources is the best way to reduce human impact on the climate
Recent fluctuations in energy resource prices have once again highlighted the importance of renewable energy sources (RES). This is reported by the UN News Service.

According to UN information, issues with global energy resource supplies are being felt everywhere. The conflict in the Middle East has significantly contributed to the rise in oil and gas prices.

“Renewable energy is fundamentally changing the situation. Solar energy is not dependent on vulnerable maritime routes, and wind does not require costly military protection funded by taxpayers. This allows countries to avoid the influence of global upheavals and not get involved in conflicts based on force,” quotes Simon Steele, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

According to the expert, renewable energy sources address key needs of European countries: security, the creation of well-paying jobs, reduced living costs, and improved health due to clean air.

At the same time, dependence on fossil fuels undermines both national security and the sovereignty of countries.

“It is astonishing that in the current crisis, some propose to exacerbate the problem by doubling down on fossil sources and slowing the transition to renewable energy. It is clear that RES are more economically viable, safer, and quickly deployable. These proposals ignore reality, as history shows that crises related to fossil resources will recur,” noted Simon Steele.

It is also noted that by 2025, renewable energy sources will become the primary source of electricity in the world, surpassing coal, and investments in clean energy will exceed $2 trillion, which is twice the investment in fossil fuels.
