The idea of creating a cultural and recreational center for elderly citizens was discussed at the Bishkek city hall. The Vice Mayor for Social Issues, Victoria Mozgacheva, shared this information at a conference dedicated to the State Program "Active Longevity in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2025–2030".
She noted that there is still a lack of clear understanding in society about what "active longevity" entails. This requires collaborative efforts from all participants — the state, the city hall, society, and families.
- In our society, there is not enough clear awareness of what the concept of "active longevity" includes. Many associate it with access to medical services or social protection, but in reality, it encompasses a much broader range of actions that cover a person's entire life cycle, starting from childhood and continuing into old age, - said Mozgacheva.
She also mentioned that there is already a gerontological center in Bishkek, but its operations do not meet modern requirements.
- We recognize that there is a lot of work ahead. The "Active Longevity" program is in its initial stages, and based on it, we will develop new initiatives. The city hall aims not only to modernize existing facilities but also to create a new cultural and recreational center that will focus on the cultural and social activities of the population. It will also include an element related to active longevity, - the vice mayor added.
Currently, the program is in the process of approval. Victoria Mozgacheva emphasized that it is important not only to create the necessary infrastructure but also to train specialists who will interact with elderly people.
- The primary focus is on the correct understanding of the term "active longevity" and creating favorable conditions for its implementation, - she concluded.
