Saakashvili asked Zelensky to include him in the list of prisoners

The former president of Georgia is in prison

Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, who is currently serving a sentence in prison, has appealed to Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, asking to include him in the list of civilian prisoners of war. He published this message on his Facebook page.

“I am a citizen of Ukraine and the chairman of the executive committee of the National Reform Council, where I had the honor to work under your leadership. I ask you to consider my request and include me, unlawfully detained by the pro-Russian regime of Georgia, in the list of civilian prisoners of war with the corresponding legal consequences. I believe that Ukrainians support their own, and I hope for your assistance,” Saakashvili stated.

In March of this year, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced Saakashvili to 9 years in prison for embezzlement of state funds, as well as 4.5 years for illegal crossing of the border. As a result, his total prison term amounted to 12.5 years.
