In a message posted on Facebook, the agency stated that Saakashvili's health has been assessed as satisfactory, and he no longer requires inpatient treatment. As a result, he has been transferred to penitentiary institution No. 12, where he will continue to serve his sentence.
Saakashvili has been convicted on several charges, including embezzlement of state funds and illegal crossing of the border. In 2022, he was transferred to the private clinic "Vivamed" for treatment of various ailments. In November of this year, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia initiated a new criminal case against him and seven opposition leaders on charges of inciting the overthrow of the government. The authorities also plan to declare the "United National Movement" party, founded by the former president, unconstitutional.
