On December 16, it was announced that the list of countries whose citizens are banned from entering the United States has been expanded. The corresponding message was posted on the White House website.

Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria have been added to the new list, and a ban has also been introduced for individuals with documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.

Additionally, the U.S. has also tightened entry restrictions for citizens of 15 countries, including Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The Trump administration justified these measures by citing the spread of corruption in the specified countries and the fact that their residents often use fake documents.

The tightening of immigration policy began after an incident at the White House, where a shooting occurred, resulting in an Afghan national injuring two guards, one of whom died. Following this, the U.S. suspended the processing of immigration requests from Afghans. Donald Trump stated his intention to remove all foreigners "who do not belong in the U.S.," and soon his administration announced a review of green cards issued to individuals from certain countries.
