In Astana, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission took place, where key issues in the fields of transport, agriculture, and trade were discussed.

As reported by primeminister.kz, the Kazakh delegation was headed by Serik Zhumangarin, who holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy, while the Russian side was represented by Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

One of the main issues was the change in the duration of stay for Kazakh drivers in Russia. Since the beginning of the year, they could stay in the country without registration for only 90 days a year, which significantly limited their opportunities. However, the Russian side has now expressed its intention to consider the possibility of returning to the previous rules, allowing them to stay in the country for up to 180 days. This decision will simplify the work of truck drivers engaged in transportation between the two countries.

“The Russian side is ready to assist in the matter of restoring the previous duration of stay for Kazakh drivers engaged in international freight transportation,” the official statement said.

Meeting participants also discussed the development of railway transit along the route between China and Europe, as well as the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk – Moyinty section.

In addition, Russia agreed to consider the issue of lifting restrictions on the import of lentil and flax seeds from Kazakhstan, as well as allowing the transit of grain through its territory.

The next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is scheduled for 2026 in Omsk.
