The publication notes that according to information from the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the new road is being considered as an alternative to the existing route Almaty – Otar – Kordai – Bishkek – Cholpon-Ata, which is approximately 460 km long.
According to the ministry, some of the necessary infrastructure already exists. However, Kazakhstan will need to repair about 80 kilometers of roads, while Kyrgyzstan will need to repair about 6 kilometers. The ministry also reported that work on the feasibility study for the project, which began in 2024, is still ongoing. This document is expected to define the key parameters of the road, including the exact route, category, length, projected traffic flow, financial indicators, and possible tariffs. Additionally, the legal requirements of both countries will be taken into account.
It is expected that the feasibility study will be completed by September 2026. After that, the parties will be able to make a final decision on the implementation of the project, including the possibility of attracting private investments through a public-private partnership mechanism.
