Kyrgyzstan is actively engaging with partners from the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom on issues related to sanctions. This was stated by Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev at a press conference while answering questions regarding Western sanctions pressure on domestic companies.

“We have held numerous consultations, presented our arguments, and even proposed conducting an independent audit. However, Western countries consider this impractical and continue to impose sanctions unilaterally. We believe this is wrong, as the republic plays an important role in Central Asia, and many transit shipments and trade exchanges pass through Kyrgyzstan,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that the country cannot cease trade with traditional partners due to the sanctions imposed by the West.

“In the context of conflicts and crises, our economy faces significant limitations. We must continue to work and trade to ensure the safety and well-being of our people. We explain this to our partners: we will continue our activities while adhering to international obligations. If you have compelling evidence, provide it, but they cannot do so,” Kulubaev added.

He also reported that in 2026, the Kyrgyz side intends to continue negotiations on this issue.

After the conflict in Ukraine began, Russia faced severe sanctions from Western countries, which led to companies from other states, including Kyrgyzstan, also starting to fall under restrictions. In particular, in October 2025, two banks—“Tolubai” and the Eurasian Savings Bank—were included in the EU sanctions lists. In February of last year, “Keremet Bank,” which had previously been placed on the US sanctions list, appeared on a new list from the UK. Additionally, several other companies from Kyrgyzstan have also been subjected to sanctions.
