In Kyrgyzstan, alarming rumors about mass infection of cows with foot-and-mouth disease have been refuted

Recent reports on social media about a mass infection of cows with foot-and-mouth disease in Kyrgyzstan have caused panic among the population. Internet users in the comments warn against buying farm milk and cottage cheese, claiming it could be dangerous. However, as experts have found, these fears are unfounded.

The Veterinary Service, which is part of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, confirmed to the editorial office of VB.KG that there are no registered cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the country. The agency assured that the situation remains stable and all livestock is under careful control.

As for the alarming videos of sick animals that are being actively circulated among Kyrgyz citizens, they were not filmed in Kyrgyzstan. The agency emphasized that there are no grounds for concern when purchasing dairy products from local farmers, and the information about bans is a complete fabrication. Veterinarians urge citizens not to succumb to panic and not to spread unverified rumors.
