The market for fuel and lubricants in Kyrgyzstan is experiencing relative stability, despite price fluctuations over the past year.

At a meeting in the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, representatives from major oil traders were present, including the NGO "Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan," the NGO "Alliance of Entrepreneurs," LLC "SHNOS," LLC "Alpha Oil," LLC "Munai Prom," LLC "Partner Neft," and JSC "RN-Kyrgyznefteproduct."

The topics of discussion included fuel stocks, price fluctuations, and the stability of petroleum product supplies to the domestic market.

According to information from the antimonopoly service, fuel supplies are proceeding as scheduled, and the country has fuel reserves for about two months.

In January of this year, prices for gasoline and diesel dropped to 3 soms per liter; however, recent price changes have been limited and depend on wholesale prices at oil refineries in Russia.

“In the context of the current geopolitical tensions, the situation in the fuel market is under control and is not currently having a negative impact on domestic prices in Kyrgyzstan. Duty-free supplies to the country are being carried out under an intergovernmental agreement between the ministries of energy of Kyrgyzstan and Russia, which ensures the stability of supplies and protects the domestic market from external risks. The antimonopoly service is conducting constant monitoring of the price situation,” the agency reported.

As a result of the meeting, oil traders were recommended to monitor prices and maintain sufficient fuel reserves to avoid shortages in the domestic market.

Price Changes

It should be noted that the majority of fuel in Kyrgyzstan is imported—over 80% of gasoline and diesel comes from Russia and Kazakhstan. This leads to domestic prices being heavily dependent on the situation in external markets.

In 2025, there was an increase in fuel prices: gasoline rose by about 15%, and diesel by more than 11%. The main reasons were repair work at oil refineries in Russia, geopolitical instability, and increased demand for fuel.

However, at the beginning of 2026, a slight decrease in prices was recorded.

According to the National Statistical Committee, in January, the price of AI-92 gasoline decreased to 74 soms per liter, AI-95 to about 79 soms, and diesel to 78-79 soms. The decrease was about 2-3 soms per liter and was related to the adjustment of wholesale prices and seasonal demand decline.

As of today, AI-92 gasoline costs 74.4 soms per liter, AI-95 gasoline is 79.4 soms, and the price of diesel has dropped to 77.8 soms.

Local drivers note that fuel prices remain high, and a significant portion of the family budget goes towards fuel, especially for those who use personal transport daily.

“We would prefer to give up the car and switch to public transport, but there are problems with that too. There are constant crowds at the bus stops, the buses are overcrowded, and during rush hour it's impossible to get away. So, while we are taking the kids to school and going to work ourselves, a lot of money goes into refueling the car. But there are no alternatives,” they share their concerns.

Currently, authorities and oil traders confirm that fuel supplies to Kyrgyzstan are proceeding as scheduled, and fuel reserves are approximately two months.

Future price changes will depend on the market situation and fuel prices at Russian oil refineries, which, in turn, have a significant impact on prices in Kyrgyzstan.
