Every year on March 15, the world celebrates World Consumer Rights Day, as reported by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan.
In 2026, the slogan for the year in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union regarding consumer rights protection will be "At Home on the Internet: Know Your Rights, Buy Wisely." This slogan emphasizes the importance of protecting consumer interests amid the growth of the overall EAEU market and electronic commerce, the ministry notes. The efforts of the countries will focus on achieving a balance between the interests of businesses and consumers.
The ministry reminds that every citizen of Kyrgyzstan has the right to protect their interests as a consumer. If a product turns out to be of inadequate quality and the seller did not disclose the defects, the buyer has the right to demand the elimination of defects at no charge, compensation for corrections, a proportional reduction in price, replacement of the product with a similar one or another brand with a recalculation of the price, as well as termination of the contract with a refund.
When making a purchase, it is recommended to always obtain a cash register receipt or another document confirming the transaction.
In case of violation of consumer rights, citizens can contact government authorities. In particular, the Antimonopoly Regulation Service under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce is responsible for protecting consumer rights regarding low-quality goods, works, and services.
Financial services are protected by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan. The quality of products and sanitary safety is monitored by the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary-Epidemiological Surveillance under the Ministry of Health.
Issues related to medical devices and medicines are handled by a specialized department of the Ministry of Health. The fuel and energy sector is controlled by the relevant department under the Ministry of Energy.
Additionally, regarding veterinary safety, citizens can contact the Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, and for education-related issues, they can reach out to the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations of Kyrgyzstan.
