This year, the Kyrgyz militia celebrates its 101st anniversary, which took place in November.
The first mention of the establishment of the militia in the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region was the report of the head of the administrative department of the Revolutionary Committee, Ibrai Toychynov, dated November 1, 1924, in which he proposed appointing Arumov Arkadiy Petrovich as the first head of the militia. Since then, this date has been considered the founding day of the Kyrgyz militia.
According to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Osh region, one of the first leaders of the militia in this region was Jamshitbek Karabekov, the grandson of Alymbek-Datka. In the memoirs of Daniil Vasilyevich Korduba, born in 1902, he describes how his family moved from Ukraine to Central Asia and settled in the city of Osh in 1914. After the death of his parents, he was assisted by Kadyrbek Kamchybekov, with whom Daniil later served in the militia and the Soviet State Security Committee.
At the end of his life, Korduba returned to the village of Vasilyevka in the Kharkov region, where he shared memories of Jamshitbek and Kadyrbek, emphasizing their important role in the fight against the basmachi movement.
Jamshitbek and his great-grandson Karybek made a significant contribution to strengthening stability after the October Revolution and in the formation of the Kenesh rural council. In the 1920s and 1930s, they were respected leaders in society.
In 1918, Jamshitbek Karabekov held the position of head of the administrative department of the Osh Revolutionary Committee and led the People's Militia, while his colleague Kadyrbek Kamchybekov became the first head of the militia in Alai. He formed a people's detachment of volunteer Kyrgyz to fight against the basmachi in the Gulchin district, protecting important state communications.
From the summer of 1931, when the basmachi movement began to lose support among the population, the authorities restored order, and the residents of Kyrgyzstan began to live peaceful lives. However, due to political repression, Kadyrbek and Jamshitbek were killed, perceived as descendants of the baymanaps. During the Soviet era, their achievements in the establishment of the Kyrgyz militia went unnoticed.
