The section of the Chu River in the rural district of Tömönkü-Chuy, with a length of 44.292 km, urgently needs bank reinforcement.

The total length of the river is 53 km, of which a significant part—44.292 km—requires reinforcement work. Currently, bank protection measures have only been carried out on a section of 8.708 km.

This information was presented during the working visit of the presidential envoy in the Chuy region, Azamat Osmonov, to Tömönkü-Chuy, located in the Sokuluk district.

According to available information, the water level in the Chu River during the winter can reach 50 cubic meters, while in the summer it drops to 10 cubic meters. The strong current leads to bank erosion of up to 5 meters, creating serious risks for agricultural lands. In some cases, the water reaches the sown fields.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations regularly conducts bank reinforcement work by delivering rock materials to the riverbed. On average, 500 meters to 1.5 kilometers of the shoreline can be reinforced each year. However, these measures are insufficient for complete protection of the banks from further erosion.

As a result of the visit, A. Osmonov instructed local units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to develop a detailed map plan of the sections of the Chu River that require reinforcement, indicating priority and most vulnerable areas. A task was also set to create a realistic phased plan for carrying out the work, taking into account actual needs and possible risks.

Reinforcing the banks of the Chu River has been identified as a crucial task, as inaction could lead to the loss of agricultural land and the emergence of emergencies.

During the visit, the regional head inquired with representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations about the funding allocated for bank reinforcement over the past five years.

According to the representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in 2025, work was completed on three sections in Kamyshanovka: 33 million soms were spent on the first section, 28 million soms on the second, and 6.4 million soms on the third. For 2026, reinforcement of three more sections is planned.

“There are very dangerous zones that are divided into 23 categories. They need to be addressed as a priority,” the statement said.
