During the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy held on January 12, 2026, deputies discussed the pressing issue of the state of Bekkari pits designated for the disposal of biological waste in various regions, including the city of Osh.

Deputy Santalat Amanova noted that the pit in Osh was built about 70 years ago and is currently overflowing, failing to meet modern requirements. This leads to waste often being dumped in inappropriate places. Amanova urged the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with local authorities, to conduct the necessary calculations and organize comprehensive measures to prevent sanitary problems in Osh and other regions.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev emphasized the importance of having Bekkari pits and reported that there are design solutions available in the ministry. He added that for filled facilities, it is necessary to carry out isolation and create new sites in other locations. Kerimaliev also noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Veterinary Service, is working on improving the epizootic situation, including funding from the state budget.

Director of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Development Service Adilet Sotovaldiyev confirmed the shortage of such facilities but reported plans for a phased transition to cremation instead of creating new Bekkari pits. As an example, he cited the Issyk-Kul region, which has four crematoria funded by the Issyk-Kul Development Fund, located in the Jeti-Oguz and Ton districts.

Note:

A biothermal pit (Bekkari pit) is a structure for the safe disposal of animal carcasses. It is designed according to standard requirements and is located on a dry elevated site with a low groundwater level (no more than 2.5 m from the ground surface) at least 1 km away from populated areas, water sources, wells, and livestock passages.
