In 2025, winter crops were sown in Kyrgyzstan at a level of 65% of the planned areas. This was reported by Turat Idirisov, head of the Department of Crop Production, Horticulture, and Cooperation of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing, during a radio program.

According to Idirisov, of the planned 250,000 hectares, approximately 163,000 hectares were actually sown this year. This figure exceeds the corresponding indicator from last year by about 20,000 hectares.

The Ministry strongly recommends that farmers engage more actively in the winter sowing of grain crops such as wheat and barley. This approach will help reduce the burden on equipment, fertilizers, and water resources during the spring fieldwork.

In addition, the department emphasizes the need to utilize fields after harvesting grains for growing a second crop. In particular, in the Chui region, this year corn was sown on an area of over 5,000 hectares as a second crop, which yielded positive results. Next year, there are plans to expand the areas for the second harvest.

As noted by Idirisov, in the southern regions of the country, the practice of growing a second and even third harvest has existed for many years. In northern regions, such as Chui and Talas, with the availability of irrigation water, it is also possible to grow a second crop, such as corn or vegetables, after harvesting winter crops in June and July.

Agrarians are advised to conduct winter sowing again after harvesting the second crop. To maintain soil fertility, the ministry recommends regularly conducting soil analysis at least once a year and applying mineral fertilizers according to norms, which will help avoid negative impacts on plants, animals, and human health.
