Today, February 13, the Bishkek City Court issued a final decision on the appeal of Kanyshai Mamyrkulova. The judicial panel reviewed the decision of the first instance, dropping the charges under the article on inciting hatred, but upholding the charges of calls for unrest. The journalist's lawyers confirmed this information to Kaktus.media.

According to the new court decision, Mamyrkulova was fully acquitted under Article 330 "Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious, or interregional hostility" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, but was found guilty under Article 278 "Calls for active disobedience to the lawful demands of representatives of power and for mass unrest" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The probation period was reduced from four years to three years.

The defense believes that the charges under the article "Calls for mass unrest" are unfounded, and that Mamyrkulova's guilt has not been proven. Nevertheless, they view positively that she was acquitted under the other article.

On March 20, 2025, journalist Kanyshai Mamyrkulova was detained. She was charged under the articles on "Calls for mass unrest" and "Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious, interregional hostility" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Journalists and human rights organizations sent an open letter to the president and law enforcement agencies, pointing out the threat to Mamyrkulova's health and the violation of her right to freedom of speech.

The October District Court of Bishkek previously sentenced Kanyshai Mamyrkulova to six years in prison with four years of probation. As part of the probation supervision, she is prohibited from publishing materials on social media and leaving her home from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
