The President, Sadyr Japarov, today held a meeting with the relatives of those who have been detained or convicted for drug-related crimes.
During this discussion, participants raised the issue of the possibility of changing the preventive measure for the detainees, suggesting that detention be replaced with house arrest, and also requested leniency in sentencing for the convicted. Additionally, they noted the need for the humanization of legislation in this area.
The President, after listening to the appeals, emphasized that the fates of citizens should not remain unnoticed by the state. At the same time, he stressed that drug-related crimes pose a serious threat to public health and safety.
Relatives noted that many of the detainees are young people, but there are also those who are older. According to them, all of them had no previous issues with the law and were detained for the first time, with some having only a small amount of prohibited substances in their possession.
Sadyr Japarov indicated that in some cases he is ready to consider the possibility of pardoning those who have committed a crime for the first time, provided there are grounds and all necessary procedures are followed. For this, relatives should submit an official request, which will be reviewed in the established manner.
At the end of the meeting, the President emphasized the importance of conducting preventive work among the youth and enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation among state bodies in the fight against drug trafficking.
Furthermore, Sadyr Japarov instructed the relevant departments of the Presidential Administration to analyze the current legislation in the field of drug control.
