The Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Marlen Mamataliyev, congratulated the women of Kyrgyzstan on International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8.

In his address, he noted:

“Dear women! Esteemed mothers and sisters!

On behalf of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and personally, I sincerely congratulate you on March 8 — International Women's Day!

Since ancient times, our ancestors highly valued the role of women, considering her the guardian of the family hearth and well-being. In our nation, the status and purity of women are traditionally revered, as evidenced by proverbs: ‘Paradise lies at the feet of the mother’ and ‘The forty braids of a girl — respect.’ Kyrgyz women have always stood beside men, making significant contributions to the development of our independent country. Bright examples of such women include Zhanil, Kurmanzhan, Urkuya, Zuurakan, Kerimbubu, Olmoskhan, Kulyipa, Batys, Sakin, Jamal, and Roza, who are celebrated for their strength of spirit, wisdom, and hard work. Modern Kyrgyz women continue this path, preserving the traditions of their great predecessors.

Dear compatriots!

Since gaining independence, new horizons have opened for Kyrgyz women. In recent years, state policy in support of women has significantly strengthened. President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich signed a decree on the implementation of gender quotas in public administration, according to which the share of representatives of one gender in the personnel reserve cannot exceed 70 percent.

Currently, there are 30 women deputies in the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, elected from 30 districts, which has been highly appreciated by the international community. The United Nations noted that Kyrgyzstan ranks among the leaders in the number of women in parliament. Additionally, two major ministries are headed by women. We will continue to pay attention to issues of gender equality and strengthen the role of women in public and political life.

Dear Kyrgyzstanis!

Unfortunately, cases of violence against women still occur. As the folk poetess Maiyrmkan Abylkasymova said: ‘If you see a woman’s suffering, blame the son of that people.’ These words remind us of the great responsibility men have for the well-being of women. The words ‘mother’ and ‘woman’ contain a power capable of changing the world. The future of our state largely depends on women who raise a worthy generation and preserve the spiritual values of our people.

Dear mothers and sisters!

Happy holiday that comes with spring! I wish you health, happiness, and great success! May your faces always shine with smiles, and your hearts be filled with joy and peace! May our country be filled with peace, and may mothers never shed tears!”
