The chief physician of the Bishkek Emergency Medical Center, Iskender Shayahmetov, shared information about the reasons for delays in the arrival of ambulances and problems with getting through on the phone.

According to him, all calls are received in the central dispatch center, where they are handled by eight dispatchers with medical education. Bishkek is divided into several sectors, where 44 teams operate, including resuscitation, cardiology, neurology, pediatrics, and regular teams.

Shayahmetov noted that after the administrative-territorial reform, new settlements joined Bishkek, leading to an increase in the population by 167,000 people. This expansion of the service area has affected the response time of the teams. According to regulations, one team should serve 10,000 people, but with a population of over 1.3 million, the capital needs about 130-140 teams, while only 44 are available.

He also emphasized that the number of dispatchers remains at eight, which exacerbates the problems with getting through. The Ministry of Health has already instructed to increase the number of operators to 16.

Moreover, outdated infrastructure and traffic jams create additional difficulties. All central substations are located in the city center, while the southern part is actively being developed, making it difficult to reach remote areas within the standard 24 minutes.

On Suverkulova Street, on the territory of the perinatal center, a new substation is under construction, which will be equipped with 24 dispatch consoles, four consulting doctors, and 15 teams. Plans include decentralizing operations and placing specialized teams closer to densely populated areas of the city,” he added.

Additionally, Shayahmetov pointed out the lack of vehicles as a separate issue. “Every day, 20 to 25 transports are carried out, including patients on hemodialysis. Some substations have already been built but cannot be put into operation due to a lack of vehicles. Most new cars are sent to the regions, leading to a shortage of specialized equipment in the capital,” he concluded.
