Charges against Trump for interference in the 2020 Georgia elections have been dropped

In his comments, Georgia State Prosecutor Peter Skandalakis noted that “the sitting president will not be able to participate in the trial,” making the continuation of the proceedings “useless and unproductive.” He emphasized that further consideration of the case by a jury in 2029-2031 would merely be a display of “great dexterity.” This statement was also quoted by CNN, and the prosecutor added that the court approved this decision.

Steve Sadow, Trump’s attorney, expressed satisfaction with the dismissal of the charges, emphasizing that the case should not have been initiated in the first place.

In 2021, Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis initiated an investigation into alleged interference in the Georgia elections, leading to charges against Trump and his 18 supporters in August 2023. The charges included violations of Georgia laws regarding racketeering and corruption.

After his defeat in the 2020 elections, Trump faced four criminal cases, one of which concerned interference in the Georgia elections. In August 2023, he temporarily surrendered to authorities, was arrested, and then released on bail after 20 minutes.

Of all the criminal cases, only one went to trial — the case regarding payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels for her silence during the 2016 election campaign. Daniels claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006, and her former attorney Michael Cohen paid her money for her silence. Trump, for his part, denied these allegations. A court in New York ruled in January 2025 for Trump’s unconditional release in this case.

In 2024, cases regarding the illegal possession of classified documents and the Capitol riot were closed.
