President Lee Jae-myung also noted that the police have launched an investigation into the leak of personal data of over 33 million customers of the country's largest e-commerce service, Coupang, which is actively expanding its customer base and introducing new services.
As a result of the incident, the names, email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers of customers became known. It has been established that the issue had been observed since June, and a report on it was submitted to the authorities in November.
The president expressed dissatisfaction that Coupang specialists were unable to detect the leak for five months. He called for increased fines and compensation in such cases. The company has already apologized for the incident.
