A powerful earthquake that occurred off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan caused a shift in the Earth's crust in the epicenter area by nine centimeters. This was reported in information provided by the Geospatial Information Administration, which was published by RIA Novosti.
According to data obtained from the electronic geodetic station "Higashi-dori 2," located near the epicenter, a shift of about nine centimeters was recorded in the eastern direction. The document also states that the results of the analysis may be refined as further verification of the information takes place.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.5, occurred on Monday in the northern Aomori Prefecture. Following this, a tsunami threat was declared for the northeastern coast of Honshu Island and the eastern coast of Hokkaido Island. The maximum height of the tsunami reached 70 centimeters. The threat was lifted approximately six hours after the earthquake. The epicenter was located at a depth of 54 kilometers from the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture, and the intensity of the tremors was more than six on the seven-point scale.
According to the latest data, 35 people were injured as a result of this earthquake.
