A powerful earthquake in northern Japan has resulted in 35 people injured, reports TBS television channel.
This information was provided by local authorities in the Aomori, Hokkaido, and Iwate prefectures.
The earthquake, measuring 7.5 in magnitude, occurred in the Aomori prefecture area. A tsunami warning was issued along the northeastern coast of Honshu Island and the eastern coast of Hokkaido, with a maximum height of 70 centimeters. The warning was lifted approximately six hours after the earthquake. The epicenter was located at a depth of 54 kilometers off the eastern coast of Aomori prefecture, and the tremors exceeded six points on the seven-point scale used in Japan.
According to data from the Japan Meteorological Agency, 14 aftershocks occurred within 14 hours after the main tremor, with a maximum magnitude of 6.4 and a minimum of 3.6. The depths of these epicenters ranged from 50 to 10 kilometers.
Throughout the week, the Japanese government and meteorological agency warned of an increased risk of major earthquakes in the areas of the northernmost island of Hokkaido and Sanriku in the northeastern part of the country.
