The World Population Review website has published data on alcohol consumption in different countries. Kyrgyzstan, as seen from the statistics, ranks among the top places for sobriety in the region, with a consumption level of 3.9 liters of pure alcohol per person per year.

The authors of the study note that Central Asia, in general, exhibits a low level of alcohol consumption, which is linked to the cultural and religious traditions of Islam. For example, in Kazakhstan, this figure is 5.4 liters, while in Uzbekistan, it is only 2.1 liters.

The lowest consumption is recorded in Tajikistan (0.7 liters) and Turkmenistan (0.3 liters), as stated in the report.

As for the world leaders in alcohol consumption, the highest amounts consumed are registered in Eastern and Central Europe. Romania ranks first with 17.1 liters, followed by Georgia (15.5 liters) and Latvia (14.7 liters). The top five also includes Moldova (14.1 liters) and the Czech Republic (13.7 liters).

The report also indicates that data on alcohol consumption is absent for a number of countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Minimum figures of 0.1 liters per year are recorded in Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, as well as in Iran, Syria, and Kuwait.

World Population Review is an independent scientific publication founded in 2013 that focuses on the collection and analysis of demographic data and statistical information.
