President of Syria Ahmed al-Shara announced the signing of an agreement with Mazloum Abdi, who is the head of the "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF), as reported by Alaraby TV.
The agreement provides for a ceasefire, which was achieved after government forces began an offensive in areas controlled by the Kurds, particularly in the regions of Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, and Raqqa. The document contains 14 points, including the transfer of all Kurdish fighters into the Syrian army, the appointment of some SDF representatives to high positions in the armed forces, as well as the transfer of oil fields currently in Kurdish hands to state control. Additionally, there are plans to integrate civil institutions in Hasakah province into state structures.
According to the agreement, the Syrian government commits to not strike the SDF forces and local self-governments in the eastern part of the country.
Since the beginning of December 2025, clashes between Kurdish formations and the Syrian army have resumed. By January 10, government troops managed to take control of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya areas. To date, the Syrian army continues to advance into Arabic-speaking areas in the northeast that are under SDF control and has already liberated a large part of Deir ez-Zor province, which is key for oil extraction and agriculture.
