According to the minister, in the early hours of December 7, a group of military personnel attempted to destabilize the state; however, security forces quickly intervened and prevented the coup.
Seydou emphasized: "The armed forces of Benin, true to their oath, have preserved republican order. Their actions allowed us to keep the situation under control and thwart the coup."
The minister added that calm has been restored and there is no danger to citizens. The government urged the population to continue their daily lives.
Earlier, there were reports of a possible military coup in Benin.
